BALANGA CITY, Bataan – The Bataan Tourism Foundation, Inc. (BTFI) headed by Mrs. Vicky Garcia, wife of the governor, leads the preparation for the commemoration of the "Fall of Bataan" or Bataan Day on April 7 to 9.

With the all-out support of Gov. Enrique "Tet" Garcia and his son Cong. Abet S. Garcia, 2nd district, the BTFI head had convened recently all the local tourism chairs composed of the wives of the town mayors in Bataan, to come up with various tourism programs to highlight the historical significance of the celebration, which is being observed yearly by the nation as a legal holiday.

The program starts with a fun run dubbed as "Takbo, Bayani, Takbo" to be followed by parade of floats that would depict the heroic deeds of the World War II heroes in the province.

The event will also coincide with the opening of a three-day Bataan trade fair where the local products of Bataan will be displayed for sale to the public at the Bulwagan ng Bayan. Mrs. Garcia said that 42 Micro-SME (Small and Medium Enterprises) have expressed interest in joining the trade fair that includes food products, wearable and furniture products and other locally produced but high quality native products of Bataan.

Aside from this, Gov. Garcia said that there would also be a seafood feast to be held at the Port of Orion to be followed by a concert starring Ogie Alcasid and Rachel Alejandro and their group, making the festival more lively.

In Pilar town, site of the famous "Dambana ng Kagitingan" shrine, Mayor Charlie Pizzaro said that President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo will definitely arrive on April 9, together with various foreign dignitaries, to commemorate the Bataan Day celebration.

A sharpshooter himself, Mayor Pizarro also said that the "1st Congressman Abet Garcia Cup," a shooting competition, will also highlight the celebration to be sponsored by the congressman. Expected to grace the shooting competition are Cong. Mikey Arroyo and actor Eddie Garcia, among others.

The PNP headed by Senior Superintendent Hernando Zafra has also been busy putting up security measures to ensure the peaceful celebration of the event traditionally held atop Mt. Samat in Pilar town.

Mrs. Garcia added that they have also invited Philippine Tourism Authority (PTA) head Robert Dean Barbers to grace the occasion, saying they will also seek funds from the PTA to support the tourism programs in Bataan.
