Manila
Information
Capital city of the Philippines,
Manila is located on central Luzon Island at the mouth of the
Pasig River, just west of Quezon City. Manila is the commercial,
administrative, and cultural center of the Philippines and is
a teeming, modern metropolis with an old, walled town, Intramuros.
Manila's old town has been restored to retain much of its original
character, with landmarks that include Manila Cathedral, the
ruins of Fort Santiago, and the 16th-century San Agustin Church
at its center.
Adjacent to Intramuros is Rizal Park (also known as Luneta),
a popular meeting place and relaxation area that stretches up
to Manila Bay where one can view the famed Manila sunset. Featuring
a planetarium, Japanese and Chinese gardens, and a children's
amusement park, Rizal Park also holds a dramatic monument to
the Philippines' national hero, Dr Jose Rizal.
Close to the park are the Ermita and Malate districts of Manila,
with numerous antique and art galleries, theaters, souvenir
shops, and cafés, which are also lively areas for nightlife.
Makati is the financial center of Manila and home to The Peninsula
Manila. Center of the most prestigious business addresses, multinationals,
and foreign embassies, Makati also houses Manila's most fashionable
restaurants, discos, music bars, boutiques, and specialty shops,
particularly in and around the Ayala Center.
Located at the corners of Ayala and Makati Avenues, The Peninsula
Manila is on the doorstep of the most extensive shopping malls
that offer a wide variety of department stores and specialty
boutiques. Forbes Park is also within this area, as is the exclusive
Manila Polo Club and Manila Golf Club, all of which are easily
accessible to guests of the hotel.
The Peninsula Manila is also just a 30-minute drive from Ninoy
Aquino International Airport and just 20 minutes from Manila
Domestic Airport.
