The hotels were cited in three categories. In the Top 25 Pacific Rim Hotels list, based on a perfect score of 100, The Oriental, Bangkok took the No. 3 (90.3 percent) position; Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong, seventh (87.7); and The Oriental, Singapore, 14th (82.0).

Kahala Mandarin Oriental, Hawaii took the 15th position (81.2 percent) on the Top 25 Pacific Resorts list, and Mandarin Oriental, San Francisco placed 19th (84.9) on the Top 25 North American Hotels list.

''Conde Nast Traveler offers 'truth in travel' to their readers. Now the readers themselves have voiced their opinions, and we are delighted they favor Mandarin Oriental hotels,'' said Edouard Ettedqui, managing director of Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group.

Conde Nast Traveler editors sent out a ''poll of consumer attitudes'' to 250,000 subscribers in March 1997, asking for opinions on hundreds of cities, hotels, resort areas, spas, airlines, cruises and car-rental agencies in areas from rooms and service to food and location.

Some 37,000 readers responded, and the results were tabulated for the Reader's Choice Awards.
