Sometimes, all one needs is a view of the sunset – glorious, dazzling, and unobstructed by towering power lines and billboards. People travel to far-off places to see that perfect sunset and be surrounded by warmth, silence and peace.

In the Philippines, the most famous spot for sunset viewing is Manila Bay, though it is by no means the only one. In fact, a two-and-a-half-hour drive south of Manila would bring one to a breathtaking view of the sunset, and a warm, quiet place to stay in.

This is the best-kept secret of the Golden Sunset Resort, a haven nestled in the town of Calatagan, Batangas. The sprawling eight-hectare resort combines all the elements of a vacation destination to create a tranquil place for rest and relaxation.

Upon arrival, guests are ushered into a palatial receiving hall with comfortable lounge chairs and pool tangles. From here, they are treated to a view of some of the facilities: A huge swimming pool and volleyball court all surrounded by lush gardens.

A winding pathway leads to a waterfall that flows into the pool. Beyond the pool are fully airconditioned cottages overlooking fish ponds where guests can catch fish for breakfast.

An open-air dining gazebo is located a short distance away. Here, guests can enjoy sumptuous home-cooked meals and local delicacies while taking in the fresh sea air, warm breeze, and a dazzling view of the clear sky. At sundown, guests can lounge in one of the open-air pavilions to bask in the glow of the setting sun.

Topmost among the Golden Sunset’s facilities is the Serendipity Spa, which features open-air massage pavilions where guests can be one with nature while being treated to a full range of spa services.

Newly added features make it even more irresistible to hie off to the quite sanctuary. A new garden cove with 10 rooms which could house 50 people has just recently opened to accommodate more tired and weary city-trekkers. Swimming pool slides, bikes lanes and a mesmerizing butterfly sanctuary add to the fun and rustic charm.
