For the Philippines, and the rest of the world, the global tourism
industry must have done so much in generating a dramatic impact on
all economies. It paved the way to educate people, yield employment,
raise the standard of living, and harness products and services.
Though tourism is about traveling, it also drums up programs that sustain the
environment leading to the preservation of a country's culture and history.
For the past two years, the Philippines has been trying to recover from the
contagious regional economic dilemma. To hasten recovery, the prime movers
and key players in the industry - Movement of Incentive Travel Executives
(MITE) and the Philippines Convention and Visitors Corporations (PCVC) -
have joined hands with the province of Aklan to launch the Philippine Incentive
Marketing Conference on May 26-30.
Ushering in the millennium, the conference tackles the theme "I.T. (incentive
travel) into the next century."
To be held in Boracay, Aklan, the event aims to boost the sluggish tourism
industry by showcasing the island destination, stepping up marketing
campaigns via incentive travel, and forging unity between private and
government sectors to promote an ecofriendly and sustainable tourism.
Some local industry top brass like Phil-Incentive chairman Fina Joven, MITE
president Billie Calizo, Kalakbayan Travel Systems, Inc., director Ed Nuque,
baron Travel & Tours president Marilen Sandejas-Yaptangco, Arnie Bayag,
and Rajah Tours Philippines general manager Jojo Clemente - will be on hand
to back up foreign industry guests and speakers through plenary and blackout
sessions.

executive director of Venture Asia Publishing-Singapore, Richard Raju,
regional director of Strategic Solutions/Motivation Asia, Janet Elkins, president
of Eventworks USA, Jacques Arnoux, board of director Society of Incentive &
Travel executives USA, David Cox, president of AustralAsian Incentive
Association and director of Inmark Australia, and Khun Charabun Incentive
Association of publicly of Tourism Authority of Thailand - will share their
expertise with the delegates and organizers of the event by tackling issues
and subjects that affect the industry in general.
For the first time, the organizers has come up with "Love camp," a nouvelle
approach of shaping the spirit of group camaraderie. The whole-day
teambuilding sessions is expected to spawn panaceas on crucial trade
matters.
Covering a wide spectrum, the event intends to involve middle to top-level
managers of the hospitality industry: hotels and resorts, destination
