The E-Z Philippines Travel
Atlas 2000, which contains
more than 65 informative
maps of regions, major
cities, air routes, sea
routes and popular tourist
destinations, will be
released in November,
with an official launch on
November 12 at the 10th
Philippine Travel Mart to
be held at SM Megamall,
Mandaluyong City.
The atlas is produced by the United Tourist Promotions
(UTP) in cooperation with the Philippine Department of
Tourism.
It includes detailed city maps of Manila, Makati, Quezon,
Angeles, Olongapo, Baguio, Cebu, Davao, General
Santos, Zamboanga, Cagayan de Oro, Tagbilaran, and
Puerto Princesa.
Aside from maps, it will have accompanying text which
focuses on major tourist attractions of the nations 16
regions, a fascinating mixture of familiar and
lesser-known places of interest. A special feature will be
maps of the nations churches, shrines, festivals, and
historical sites, which are certain to be popular with
serious travelers.
UTP president, Charlie Kemplin, said the atlas, which is
a product of three years of painstaking work by his
company, would achieve universal recognition as a
world-class travel publication, destined to enhance the
image of the nation as a preferred destination for both
international and domestic travelers.
The key feature of the atlas is the striking mapwork of
UTP senior art director, Ariel Da Jersey, who is already
recognized as the most successful commercial
cartographer in the Philippines. UTPs popular E-Z Map
series has garnered a commanding share of the
marketplace since its inception in 1997.
World renowned photographer and graphic artist, Gunther
Deichmann, has contributed a striking cover, which
avoids cliched images of the Philippines and focuses
instead on the image of a progressive nation striding
confidently forward into the new millennium. The atlas will
feature many of Deichmanns spectacular images of the
archipelago and its people.
We perceived a serious need for a publication of this
nature in the Philippines, Kemplin said.
We are very proud that United Tourist Promotions, a
Filipino company, has produced a world-class atlas that
will undoubtedly help promote the nation towards its
rightful place as the hub of tourism in Southeast Asia.
In keeping with UTPs policy of promoting environmental
issues and awareness, a portion of the proceeds of each
atlas will be donated to the Ocean Heritage Foundation,
an organization dedicated to the preservation of marine
life in the Philippines.
Distribution will be nationwide to more than 1,000 retail
outlets, such as National Book Stores, hotels, service
stations and WG&A SuperFerries. International
distribution is planned for December.
