Discovering the wonders and splendors of the world is an adventure the
Philippine Travel Agencies Association (PTAA) hopes to offer visitors during
their travel fair on March 3-5, at Megatrade Halls 2 and 3, SM Megamall,
Mandaluyong City.
Dubbed TravelTour Expo 2000, the event has been the PTAA’s centerpiece event
since it was conceived in 1994. Its goal is to promote Philippine travel destinations, as
well as those of other countries. Each year, the fair serves as a venue for the various
vacation packages, airline promotions, travel bonuses and other incentives offered to
the public by leading travel agencies and tour operators.
One of the challenges of the travel industry is how to disseminate information
regarding travel particulars to the consumers. The Expo will address this by providing
literature on the numerous holiday locales around the world.
What to wear when on a tour is another travelers’ dilemma that PTAA has recognized.
This year’s exhibit promises a collection of clothes that may be useful to travelers,
plus accessories that can come in handy. These include, but is not limited to,
luggages and photography equipment to help one journey in style.
Most tourists want a memento from the places they have seen. The arts and crafts
section of the fair provides just that. These booths will house the finest handicrafts
and souvenirs from our archipelago.
The expo will also feature activities such as quiz shows to be participated in by
students from Metro Manila colleges and universities, and cultural presentations which
are sure crowd drawers.
To add spice to the occasion, myriad games and entertainment presentations are
being added to the festivities, along with daily raffle draws. Prizes range from free
hotel accommodations to a prepaid round-trip ticket to select destinations.
The TravelTour Expo 2000 also has a job fair in its agenda, geared toward people who
seek a career in the travel and hospitality industry.
The highlight of the fair is “The Millennium Bonus” which exhibitors have unanimously
agreed to extend to visitors who book travel arrangements during the three-day
affair. This means fare discounts, free extra night stay, bonus coupons, and other
incentives that make traveling gentle to one’s pocket.
In a display of friendly competition, there is a contest among the exhibitors
themselves. Awards will be given to winners in three categories, namely: “Best
Decorated Booth,” “Best In Marketing Effort,” and “Most Popular Booth.”
TravelTour Expo 2000, now on its seventh year, is co-presented by the Department
of Tourism and sponsored by the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI), Philippine
Airlines, the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT), and Amadeus, one
of the leading CRS (computerized reservations system) companies.
