The Municipality of Daet in the Bicol region recently launched the Grand Pinyasan Festival 2002.

Conceptualized by then councilor and now municipal Mayor Tito Sarion, the 10th Pinyasan Festival will be held from June 15 to 24 in Daet, Camarines, Norte.

The week-long festivity features a mobile display of Marikina shoe products, a beauty pageant, a food and agro-industrial fair, a cultural night, appearances by TV personalities Kristine Hermosa and Ara Mina and Miss Tourism International Michelle Reyes, and other special events.

Sporting events include surfing exhibition and competition, marathon, beach volleyball, cycling, paraw regatta, national air rifle open competition, mountain conquests, motocross tilt, sport fishing and indigenous games.

The Festival’s highlight is a streetdancing parade on June 23 showcasing performers in pineapple-inspired costumes and will culminate on June 24 in time for the Feast of St. John the Baptist.

Situated some 300 kilometers southeast of Manila, Daet is known nationwide as a producer of the queen or “Formosa’’ variety which is among the sweetest in the world. Daet’s tourist attractions include the Bagasbas Beach surfing area, the first monument of Dr. Jose Rizal built in 1898 by the revolutionaries, ancestral houses, old Spanish-period churches, and other natural attractions in neighboring towns.
